CCS-IDE find function not working properly
PostPosted: Mon Sep 15, 2014 2:01 am     Reply with quote

Hi,

I don't understand; in versions before 5.026 I could seach flawlessly on string occurences through all my program files. But CCS has changed things and the now implemented right click "find all references" does find some but not all places where, for example, I use a specific function call.

Do I use it wrong, or did CCS demolish this vital function of it's IDE?

ps. I updated to v5.027; same behaviour.

Neither find all references nor find declaration has worked in any version 5.nnn for me.

Find all references, works for me, but with a major 'caveat' to do with the way auto selection occurs.

If (for instance), I have:

int8 valdig(char dig) {

and click my cursor on the right hand 'g', and drag the selection 'back' to the 'v', and then right click, and say 'find all references', it works. However if instead I start at the 'v' end, and select the rest of the name, it doesn't. Reason is that when you release the mouse, it'll 'autoselect' the word 'dig', and find this instead.....
Once you have twigged to select the required thing 'backwards', it starts to work reasonably. Duh....

I tried your way. But still little luck. It does find the module of declaration, and a module where is is actually not used with the remark line 0 (1,1).

I presume CCS uses it's own IDE also. So then a crappy search function should be encountered by them self pretty soon Confused

In the IDE I use the SEARCH tab and then click on "Find in Files" with my cursor on the word I want. That works for me not by right clicking.

I agree.
However the point is that they offer the right click ability, and as such it should work.

'Working' seems to relate to the files being used.

Two different projects. On one it works OK, and on the other it doesn't.
Similar size, similar complexity. On the one that doesn't, the right click search does nothing!. Doesn't even put a search result window up. On the other, with the limitation already noted, it works fine.

I've always used the Find in Files method for doing what was mentioned in the opening post. It still works in 5.025. Have you tried that?

Please fill me in, because I don't see any "search" tab Shocked
The "find in files" used to be in the Ctrl-F dialog but isn't there anymore...

BTW; I opened a support case to CCS for this.

Ah, "Classic" versus the precious display wasting "Superbar".
Now the search tab is there.

However, the right click "find all references" should work also. And Superbar bar or; it doesn't Crying or Very sad

Using the Ctrl+Shift+F shortcut also in the Classic IDE mode the find in files is accessible and does work.

Don't forget that if the Find All References function doesn't work that you should report it to CCS tech support as a bug. This is just a user forum.
