DS1232 failure why?
PostPosted: Wed Jun 18, 2014 4:50 am     Reply with quote

Dear All,

Having some problems in the field with my design i was hoping some can help. All chips work fine except for the DS1232
http://www.ee.mut.ac.th/datasheet/doc/DS1232.pdf
which has problems. The DS1232 not RST pin is connected to PIN.1 of MCLR 16F887. When the board returned i found that DS1232 pin.6 is at about 0V.
When the chip is removed and replaced everything works fine again.

Could someone please give some reasons as to why the chip has failed.
Has not happened in other similar boards.

Thanks and Regards,
Jai.

possible reason...
no pullup resistor on the *MCLR connection

EMI ,current surge,marginal power supply....

we'd need to see a schematic to better understand the layout/PCB.
really it's a 'guessing game' until we know more about the product
