PostPosted: Thu Nov 28, 2013 12:22 pm     Reply with quote

hi everyone...
i am designing an alarm based motor starter for my home water pumping motor, it is 2hp, 50hz supply and 230v ac.
i want that the motor should start at the set alarm time and shut off automatically once the water tank is full.

should i use relay as a motor starter or a triac.. and also what potections do i need for interfacing this to pic...
is anyone interested to participate........????

Use a SSR. Get a type that uses 'zero crossing' switching. Much easier and safer than trying to go DIY for this.
The start current is typically up to about 4* the continuous current, so perhaps 40A+ rating needed.
Follow the manufacturers recommendations on snubbers etc..
If you have no experience on mains, get a qualified electrician to do the mains side of this.

Best Wishes
