Can't see MPLAB project |

Hi ,
I have been using MPLAB to create and compile my PIC projects for sometime now, recently I have created a few projects in MPLAB and using Hi-TECHC compiler.
When I open my project folder from my computer, I can't see MPLAB project or workspace files , neither I see the recent changes to my .c files. I only see the original .c files I pasted in that folder originally.
On the other hand running MPLAB and opening that particular project shows me everything ???
I don't understand where the changes that I make go ??
Thanks in advance |

This is CCS forum, not HI-TECH.

Hi,
It's a 'Windows 7 thing' - data is no longer stored in the the Program Files directory, or any of its sub-directories. You will probably find your data in:
"C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\PICC"
Note, that 'UserName' should be replaced with the Logon ID you use with your machine......
Frankly, this is one of the more annoying security 'features' of Windows 7. I don't necessarily have a problem with data being relocated, but I do have
a problem with it being done transparently without making the user aware...

Hi,
Well, I told you where the files are being stored now by MPLAB, but you didn't follow my directions. The path I provided is NOT the exact path to
your files, it is a generic path. To find the specific location of your files you will have to substitute your specific Logon ID.....
I wasn't sure whether Windows Search would show you the 'true' location of these files, so I didn't mention it earlier. I just tried it now, and the Windows
Search will show you the actual place the files are being stored. Do a search for '*.mcp', and you'll find what you are looking for......
It's not rocket science!

HI ezflyr,
Yes i did look into the location you have mentioned below and i couldn't find any of the project files or *.mcp files.
I did a computer wide search for project name. mcp files for multiple projects, still no luck finding their location.
I also made a new .c file within one of the MPLAB project and saved it and tried to search for it but i couldn't find it.
Please see the screen shot.

Hi,
First of all, this is purely a Window 7 issue, and NOT a CCS one!
Recognize that the new '.c', and '.mcp' files you create can be found by MPLAB, correct? That means they exist *somewhere* on your computer,
right? My guess is that you aren't using the Windows 7 Search correctly or that your folder/file View options are hiding these files. Again, this is a
Windows 7 issue, so I suggest you find a knowledgeable friend to help you out!
I like to see everything, so my Windows 7 installation is setup to show all hidden files/folders, and all system files.
Also, when you searched for the '.mcp' files did you use the '*' wildcard as I showed you??

I used search option which comes up when you click on windows start button

No , when I use wildcard the windows lists all the projects which i already see within MPLAB , i wanna search for the ones that i cantt see in their respective folders . |

Hi ,
Just to add to that.
All my projects are here C:\program files \ Microchip \ all project folders
This phenomena is happening on two separate computers, i am 100% sure i have administrative rights on both. |

Hi,
You probably can't do that, at least easily.... My recommendation would be to just accept it, and find a way to live with it...... Life is too short to be
fighting battles with your Windows OS
John
PS You found your files in essentially the exact path I gave you in my first reply. I told you then it wasn't going to be exact, and that you'd have to
play around a bit to find the exact location. I'm glad you finally did..... |

HI ,
No i dont agree ... " just accept it, and find a way to live with it"
If i run MPLAB in "run as Administrator" its keeps all your files where they should be .
You can also right-click in MPLAB and in properties set it to run as Administrator "
Thanks for the tips and advice
