hiddemo freezes Win7

Recently obtained the USB Development Kit from CCS. Have worked through the first simple examples and seems everything is working up until I start using usbdemo.exe. Example 9 compiles fine and is running on the programmed demo board which is bus powered. usbdemo is started and File>Select Device shows a list on connected HID device of which the USB demo board is one of them (VID and PID are shown numerically, no mention of “CCS USB Demo”).
Attempting to connect to the device either freezes the PC (Windows 7) or Status stays “Device Disconnected”. Anybody have that same experience using hiddemo? Suggestions? Thanks!
