ICSP -
PostPosted: Wed Sep 29, 2010 12:44 pm     Reply with quote

My USB programmer died...(model UPP628 - OEM from Spain)
(windows doesn't recognize the programmer) and I have to sit there and connect -reconnect the thing millions of times until it is recognized.

So I had to take out my trusty old parallel port programmer.

It runs with Ic-Prog, as "el cheapo" type.
(it was developed and produced for students by my college professor)
on it you can find an LM7805, 2 transistors and an 7405 ic.
It has a ZIF socket. works flawlessly.

no ICSP connector... (my problem)

I tried to jump PGM, MCLR, PGD and GND from my protoboard to the Zif socket as to test if ICSP was achievable with short jumper wires.

The above is my goal.

It doesn't verify. I get an error.

I take the chip out... place it in... works every time... (cumbersome)

My MCLR is wired as per the Microchip app note... has been working fine with my other programmer... and my programing pins are free from any additional circuit.

My oscope shows PGD and PGM signals working fine at 5V. VPP is a solid 12.5V. (from el cheapo).

Any ideas on how to get this to work? I thought if using a chip socket and solder wires from there. But I don't get why its not working. My just jumping the wires.... signals are the same... voltages are within range..
MCLR is properly wired....

I would like to be able to transform my el cheapo to ICSP...

.. thanks..

g
