Failed to load .cof
PostPosted: Wed Jul 14, 2010 10:59 am     Reply with quote

I'm using CCS v4.105 with MPLab v8.53. I was using CCS C v4.105 with MPLab v8.50 when this problem first appeared. It was working fine and then suddenly it couldn't load the .cof for this project. Other projects compile without a problem.

I tried updating to MPLab v8.53. This seemed to fix it but I was having a lot of weird issues. I discovered that MPLab did not uninstall the old version so after fixing that issue and getting a stable CCS v4.105 and MPLab v8.53 I tried it again. It still cannot load the .cof file.

What might be causing this and how can I fix it?

EDIT: forgot to mention that the build succeeds according to the compiler output. I have been unable to discern whether or not the chip is burned correctly since I can't tell if it's my circuit, my code, or this .cof problem.

I get those every now and then...

I don't know why -- I think I clean out the dir of the dynamic files and it goes away.

I'd have to go play -- maybe someone else has more -- but I've seen it too. So, you're not alone.

ah well thanks for the info. Unfortunately cleaning out the directory didn't help.

Since I don't have a problem with other projects, I believe that it's something about this project in particular. Maybe a compiler setting or a particular set of fuses throws it off?

Update: I found that there maybe an issue with COFF compatibility so I tried it with COD debugging information. It didn't have an issue loading a .cod file.

I'm not entirely clear on what this means for my problem nor am I clear on what the difference between the two formats is. Is there any reason I should be using COFF over COD? If I should be using COFF is there a fix for this problem other than updating since I'm already up-to-date?
