Is anyone using Windows 7?
Specifically I'd like to know if there are any undocumented issues I need to be aware of before our IT department updates my machine to Windows 7. I'm currently on Vista and using CCS 4.106
They (our IT) want to go for the 64-bit flavour of Windows 7 rather than the 32-bit. I've seen some old post that suggest older versions of CCS have had problems with the 64-bit version of Windows-7

whatever that means. No mention of release version of 64/32-bit, although 'better' sort of implies it (according to our IT).
I'll ask CCS support about this too, but real user experience would put my mind at ease. |

CCS have problems running on trial versions of windows 7. I tried that. When I turned on to the Window 7 Enterprise (x64), I thought .... well let's try now, I admit I was sceptical. But on my great surprise CCS runs on Windows 7 better than on Vista

Yes CCS runs on Win7 but that leaves out a lot of other issues with win7.
Win7 is a very unforgiving OS and will reject drivers often without merit.
If you can wait a few years for the bugs to be ironed out and SP4 with all the fixes to be released. Otherwise warm up your iron stiffen your resolve and help perfect the OS as an unpaid worker. Insanity is likened to doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Good luck if you think doing the same thing with Win7 will result in different outcomes .

| Interesting result, so far. Clearly from what being said, and the Poll, I might be okay with Windows 7. So few seem to be using Windows 7 at the moment its hard to say for sure. I might wait a little an see what CCS say. |

I use the MPLAB IDE with an older version of CCS PCW (V3.234). I recently upgraded to a new WIN7-32 box. I discovered today that compiling results in a build failure on all my existing projects.
For example:
Clean: Deleting intermediary and output files.
Clean Warning: File "C:\Lang\Picc-pch\foobar.o" doesn't exist.
Clean: Done.
Executing: "C:\Lang\Picc-pcw\PICC\Ccsc.exe" +FM "..\Picc-pcm\foobar.c" #__DEBUG=true +ICD +DF +LN +T -A +M +Z +Y=9 +EA #__16F688=TRUE
BUILD FAILED: Fri Apr 23 22:27:03 2010
I haven't had time to figure out what is going on. There is no listing file when it aborts, so not much to go on at the moment.
Long story short, beware that it might not be a no-brainer to switch to the new OS, even the 32-bit flavor. |
