Sound Analysis on pic16f877a or Gumstix

Hi,

I am planning to build a small tool for myself . Smile . I play piano and have difficulty in order to understand chords when someone plays it or sings on a particular scale. I thought to build a program which would recognise the input frequency of the audio so that it may be converted to the correct mapping of the relevant note. Any thoughts?
