FAT, SD, SDHC info?

Hi everybody,
I need some advice and infos about FAT files manipulation
I've already studied the CCS examples EX_fat.c fat.c (but not yer tryed)
in which they use a 18F67J60, may I use a different pic like 18F452 or are needed those better HW specs?
I noticed that there are some other codes for MMC tasking, which one is the best?
are those compatible with SDHC cards!?
if you can link some kind of "how toes" about MMC it will be appreciated
