PDA-size color LCD
PostPosted: Sat Aug 15, 2009 8:00 pm     Reply with quote

Colleagues,

There's a host of nice LCDs out there, but I'm floundering trying to pick the one to work with. All I want to do is to be able to display colored text.

This one came close, but it's a bit small. http://www.crystalfontz.com/product/CFAF320240F-T. What's nice about it is that it can be connected to uC through SPI. If it were 240x320 (portrait orientation) and if it were 4 inches wide (about 100mm), it would be perfect.

I would appreciate and suggestions or insights!

What about using the LCD screen from a DVD player for the car? They're cheap, easy to find, gotta be hackable.
Especially the 'slave' screen for the second kid in the back.

Nice thought. However, DVD screen would be too big for my device.
Just came across this chip: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8541. It could come handy if the KCD has an advanced interface (but still mechanically small).

Kender:

Here are some more Sparkfun links:

24-bit interface, so a bit complicated

iPhone LCD+touchpanel
http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9188

This seems promising, though it is slightly smaller than your requirements:

I am just starting to work with this eDIPTFT43-ATP color touchscreen from Electronic Associates. It sure is pretty . . .

Greetings,

You might try
http://www.4dsystems.com.au/

I have never used their products, but they even have a tool to design complicated screens if need be.

You might also try
http://store.earthlcd.com/

Both companies sell lcd's which should easily interface with PICS.

Cheers,

Ken, many thanks for this tip! I've used the same module. It's pretty indeed. Everybody like it and want to touch it. I've got it working without big "roadblocks" along the way.
