Constant string definitions are not working in run mode

Constant string definitions like
Code:

 const char colors[] [*] = {"Red", "Green", "Blue"};

are not working in release mode.
In Debug run mode all are working.
What is the problem?

Always post your PIC and your compiler version on a question like this.
Preferably post a small compilable test program that shows the problem.
