How can I make my controller to know about new msg

Hi
I am using pic controller to control GSM modem.
My code is perfectly fine with reading and sending msg.
My problem is that, I want to know how can I make my controller to know about newly received msg.
Is there any AT-command to make sure that controller while in loop get to know about new msg ?
