Do rf pics force me to use microchip keeloq system?

I realize that this is a ccs forum and not a microchip forum, but I know that many of the people on this website have a lot of hardware experience.

I have been looking at the rfpic12F675. It seems like an ideal choice for our application, but I can't seem to find info on which rf protocol it uses. Does it only use keeloq formatting? And is it true that keeloq requires it's own fob? I was hoping to program a generic rfid card

We're primarily in embedded control & digital logic, so we're all in a little over our heads with this application.

There is no high-level protocol built-in to the rfPIC12F675. The device is just a 12F675 stuck together with a RF transmitter that can be operated in Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK) or Frequency Shift Keying (FSK). It is entirely up to you how you control the amplitude and frequency inputs to this transmitter. Keeloq is just one choice, and if you want to use it you will have to implement it yourself in code. You can get the algorithm from Microchip by signing a non-disclosure statement. But you are also free to make up your own protocol.
