X-BEE connections with MicroControllers
PostPosted: Sat Feb 07, 2009 3:24 am     Reply with quote

Hi,
I want to communicate two pic (PIC18f452 and PIC16f628A) using X-BEE.
I wanna know that how i connect X-BEE with controllers (with PIC18f452 and PIC16f628A).
X-BEE operates on 3.3V while PIC's operate on 5V.
I think level shifting is required for communicating .
I saw some examples which uses PIC18f452 and X-BEE. In that example no level shifting is done only 3.3V supply is given to X-BEE.

http://hades.mech.northwestern.edu/wiki/index.php/XBee_radio_communication_between_PICs#Overview

Can anybody Tell me how i do level shifting or there is no need for level shifting.

PIC to XBee
PostPosted: Sat Feb 07, 2009 7:49 pm     Reply with quote

I have connected 12F683's to XBees, both running at 3v and using software serial I/O to communicate. I connected the PIC pins directly to the DOUT/DIN pins on the XBee module. That avoids the level shifting problem. Very easy to build portable controllers running off 2 AA batteries.

For detailed examples of hardware interfacing XBee to microcontrollers see www.kronosrobotics.com/application.shtml and look for MaxStreamInterface #1-4 in the left column.
