CCS Robotics - Servo Calibration ?

Please reference Chapter 6 Basic Movement in the exercise manual that accompanies the Robotic Development Kit - manual version - April 2009

See paragraph below gray source code box:

Quote: Compile the program and download it to the controller board by clicking Tools > ICD.
Once the program is running, the Servos should start to spin. --> Using your fingers, turn the potentiometer until the motors stop spinning. Reassemble the Servos. <--

The program runs properly. The servo motors spin. Where is the potentiometer? It is not on the controller board. As the line above implied, I disassembled the servo motor. When I examined the wiring/control side, no potentiometer is apparent. Is this line a typo? What should I do here?

PS. Is there a way to zero the servo motor motion via servo.c ?

Most of us don't have the manuals. CCS used to post the manuals
here, on this webpage:
http://www.ccsinfo.com/pdfs/
Then they pulled all the manuals off, about a month ago.
The only things left on there are Table of Contents and brochures.

Why don't you email CCS support and ask them why they did that ?

I found this info on the junan.com site after a lot of digging...

Using a razor or coping saw, cut a 1mm groove in the end of the potentiometer shaft. This will be used as screwdriver slot when the servos are calibrated.

The potentiometer shaft is accessed through the output shaft of the servo. I'm not sure it is worth that much trouble. I purchased this thing as a learning platform. The mobility function is minor when you consider the sensors.

If anyone else is having the same problem with their CCS Robotics Development kit, http://www.junun.org sells the pre-modified servos for $16 each.
