PostPosted: Thu Sep 04, 2008 6:41 pm     Reply with quote

Hi

I would like make one project where I have one finger sense like this:

http://img.mercadolivre.com.br/jm/img?s=MLB&f=75097289_262.jpg&v=P
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/features/fingerprint.mspx

And with PIC18f4550 I can control, for example, open an relay if the finger stay registered on PIC memory...

Someone can tell me if this is possible? or only can make this with a PC?

Best Regards, Filipe Abrantes

It's mainly a question of using the right sensor. Cause complex 2D signal processing is involved, the application most likely overstretches a PIC, partcicularly regarding memory resources.

But embedded modules with integrated processing are available, you surely will find a lot under the keyword fingerprint, e.g.:

Google can tell you, that Suprema has resellers for SFM3000 around the world. Similar products from other manufacturers surely exist.

A good starting point for searching is this slightly outdated site with an overview of many fingerprint sensors: http://pagesperso-orange.fr/fingerchip/biometrics/types/fingerprint_sensors_productsi.htm

A search on Google for the keywords "fingerprint OEM" found many promising links. Here just two examples:
