Problem with Pic16f677 debugging with MPLAB

Hello,

I have a problem with the PIC16f677. I am using the compiler PCWH 4,041
and when I run the MPLAB "8.10" and compile the SW with MPLAB 8.10 returned this error:
Verifying...
...Program Memory
...Debug Executive
...Debug Vector
...Verify Succeeded
Programming Configuration Bits
.. Config Memory
Verifying configuration memory...
...Verify Succeeded
Connecting to debug executive
ICD0083: Debug: Unable to enter debug mode. Please double click this message for more information.
MPLAB ICD 2 Ready

How can it be?

Did you double click the message as suggested to get more information?

Read the ICD2 release note supplied with MPLAB. For the PIC16F677 you will find:

(1) Header interface board required. See Header Board Specification (DS51292), for a list of available headers by device number.


The PIC16F677 is a device with only 20 pins. To conserve I/O pins Microchip has removed (part of) the ICD hardware from the chip. In order to do in circuit debugging you will have to buy a special PCB with a little electronics adding the debugging functionality. For a simple hobby project it is cheaper to move to another chip that has the ICD functionality included.
