Device ID readout from ICD control program
PostPosted: Tue Apr 22, 2008 6:23 am     Reply with quote

Hi,

I was just wondering; on the advanced tab of the ICD control program, you can readout the device ID.

What is this exactly and what it's used for? Is it different for every chip? Is it another code for the chip's name (eg PIC16LF877A gives me device ID 0E28)

It is the chip's 'version number'. The details are in the data sheet (on newer chips - for older chips there is a separate sheet about these), but typically, several of the bits (normally11 bits) actually say 'this is a 16LF877A' and the other five bits give the 'silicon revision', and will change with different chip releases.
It is the same for every chip from a given silicon revision.

Best Wishes
