PostPosted: Sat Nov 08, 2014 2:55 pm     Reply with quote

know if there is any example or application of this protocol?
I just start studying in question but I need to connect a PIC16F886 to have communication.
Thank you!

I just had a quick look at GSE at wikipedia for an overview and seriously doubt that an 886 could be used for it. Seems you'd need a LOT of memory resources to create the datastream let alone interface 'to the outside world'.
Not to say it couldn't be done but.....

How much time do you have to complete the project?

Thanks for the quick response Temtronic.
Originally J1939 would use to read codes from a forklift, but I saw that the truck had 2 connectors one with GSE, place the oscilloscope and saw it was 9600 bps RS232 started reading frames that sent the truck to ask some parameter.
But now I need to do with a pic, and I'm looking for how to interpret these values of GSE protocol.

GSE Generic stream Encapsulation
PostPosted: Sat Nov 08, 2014 5:39 pm     Reply with quote

I do not know. Caterpillar forklift is the brand and has 2 connectors J1939 and another one for a GSE label this jack I put an OSC Tecktronicx MSO4104 to see data packets, RS232 and 9600 8n1.
I have data packets in hex values, but I do not know how to interpret these values so look for the GSE protocol.
I do not know if I can upload images to add.

Any suggestions, thanks!

Regarding the image posting question, go here:
http://postimage.org/
Upload your image. Select family safe. Then click the first button for
Hotlink to Forum to get a link to the image.
Then go to the CCS forum and type Ctrl-V to paste the link into a post.

If that website doesn't work in your country, then use Google to find
another free image hosting site for forums.

Caterpiller forklift GSE cable:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cat-forklift-g-s-e-cable-/131344229824?pt=BI_Heavy_Equipment_Parts&hash=item1e94b9e5c0
According to that page, it says:
Quote:
This is a gse cable for cat lift trucks, this is the laptop to ecm/vcm communication [cable].

It's some kind of diagnosis/service connector:

so is PCM programmer, I have that cable and interface parameters to query the forklift from a laptop.
What I want is to read these parameters through a pic18X and send via serial.
My original question is about the GSE protocol, with osc shown as RS232, but I have no reference data in data packets.
  Thank you!

Search the net or contact Caterpillar corporation and ask for the GSE
protocol document (if they have one, or if they will give it out).

This page says GSE is the abbreviation for Ground Support Equipment:
