How to interface PIC with sst memory (JEDEC standard)?
PostPosted: Thu Nov 22, 2007 12:44 am     Reply with quote

Hi all,
somebody has some C code library for interface a PIC with an sst memory that works with Jedec standard like 39SF020 memory?

This is the datasheet of the memory that I want to interface with the PIC:
http://www.sst.com/downloads/datasheet/S71147.pdf

Thanks a lot ;)

P.S. I have searched into the forum and I have found an Asm source for AT49Fxxx memory but...I don't know... Rolling Eyes

This is a rather straight forward exercise in 'bit-banging'

That data sheet contains good information on how to operate the device. All you need to do is hook it up and operate the bits yourself.

Address and data should be straight forward - hook them up to the proper ports.

The control lines can be hooked up to other bits in a port.

Then follow the data sheet and operate the bits and ports to match the timing diagrams given.

This is called 'Bit-banging' and is a favorite method of controlling 'Anything' with uC's.

As a minimum I would think you will need to develop a read() and write() routine(s) to use and test this device yourself.

This should only take you and hour or so to do once you get the hang of it.

A question,
What do you want to store in the external memory? Data or program code?
For data there is no problem, but program code is a different story.

You could connect this flash to PICs that have an external memory bus, then you could use it for data and code storage. You would of course need to write your own 'write external memory' code (since its flash and not RAM), but the CCS read_external_memory lib function would work.
