OT: Collecting Serial Data for a JPEG File
PostPosted: Thu Aug 02, 2007 12:47 pm     Reply with quote

Hello All,

I've just returned to a project that captures a jpeg image from a small camera and then sends it wirelessly to a terminal program. I tried cutting and pasting that data into a txt document and then changing the extension to jpg. However, it just occurred to me why this isn't working. I remember there being some discussion here about data file formats. So I imagine there is some limitation in doing what I'm attempting.

Can anyone suggest any reading sources for my problem? Or Google search terms? Just not sure where to start.

Thanks,

John

Try Realterm, it has a capture function that will dump your stream to a file.

Thanks!

That worked great. I hadn't heard of RealTerm before. I like it.

I figured out the difference when I was saving as a text file and then renaming to a jpg. I looked at the files in UltraEdit and text files have 0x00 as every other byte (for extended character sets?)
