Hi All
I have search the list for GSM modules but there dont seems to be one which is widely recommended so i just need a bit of pushing in the right direction as to which one would be more suitable for my application.
I would be starting a project withing thenext few month and would like to add sms facility to it.
so the when my pic sense that a particular value has being reach it just sends out a text msg nothing too complicated.
I would loveto hear from anyone who has used or done this type of application foe advice and much more

I have used a wide variety of GSM solutions: from scavenged boards from old mobile phones, to Wavecom modems and lately the inexpensive SIM300C modules. From the interface programming point of view they're almost all the same. (the same AT commands over a serial port).
I suggest you consider price and the hardware: mechanical mounting (pin connectors vs, smd soldering vs. ultra-fine pitch connectors) built-in power-supply* vs. your own, etc. as the main aspects.
Do you need many, or is it just a one piece project ?
*these modules can take up to 2Amps (pulsed) and are very picky regarding the allowable voltage drop, a careful power supply design is required if you use a barebone module. |
