PIC16F886: Selected part does not have ICD debug capability
PostPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2007 11:07 pm     Reply with quote

When trying to compile a program for the 16F886 I get the error
"Selected part does not have ICD debug capability"

The device line is
#device PIC16F886 *=16 ICD=TRUE

This error is in error, can I turn it off or some workaround?
My compiler version is PCM V4.011

It's probably a setting in the Devices.dat file. Though for version 4
of the compiler, it might be called Devices4.dat. I've got both of those
files in my CCS directory.

Look at this screen-shot of the Device Editor. In the Memory section
near the center left, it's got a drop-down box for "ICD Type".

If you have PCW or PCWH, then you could check the setting for the
16F886. See if it's set for any sort of ICD capability. If not, then
pick some suitable setting and try it.

I do not have the Device Editor.

"Note: Starting with Version 4, the Project Wizard, SIOW and Device Editor (and other smaller utilities) are no longer included in the download. You must download IDEUTILS to get these tools"

I did not download it when I purchased the compiler (did not know I needed to) and now it will not let me.

It seems I should be able to download the software I paid for. Not updates past what I paid for, just what existed on the last day of my service period.

Email CCS support and give them your name and Reference number.
Tell them what happened. They'll either email it to you or enable your
account for one day to let you download it. (This is assuming that you
bought PCW or PCWH).

It's possible that they might also let you upgrade to a version where
the problem with the 16F886 is fixed. Tell them the whole story.
