Memory question and 18f4525
PostPosted: Fri Dec 22, 2006 8:13 am     Reply with quote

I am working on a keyboard/lcd project where the user types a label into a small LCD and hopefully store the information somewhere on the pic.

Which is better to use, program memory or the EEPROM? I'm using 24 LCD's that can accept up to a maximum of 8 characters (24x8bytes=192bytes). The 18f4525 has plenty of eeprom and program memory, but i'm wondering would one be more efficent than the other?

Thanks in advance.

Download the 18F4525 data sheet:
http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/39626b.pdf
Look near the end of the data sheet, at this section:
TABLE 26-1: MEMORY PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS

Here are the endurance specs:
Code:

Data EEPROM Memory:
                    Min      Typ
 Byte Endurance     100K     1M

Program Flash Memory:
                    Min      Typ
 Cell Endurance     10K      100K

Go to the Ramtron site and download the data sheet for the FM24C64.

Endurance specs:
High Endurance -- 1 Trillion (10^12) Read/Writes
45 Year Data Retention
NoDelay™ Writes
