Right now I have 89% of an 18F2620 used up. I am redesigning the board to a 40 pin dip and I want to use the 18F4685 for more memory. Samples are on the way.

Will 3.249 support this device?

Does V4 support this device now? If not, when?

There is no 18F4685.H file in the c:\Program Files\Picc\Devices folder,
for PCH vs. 3.249. So it doesn't support it. Don't know about vs. 4.xxx.
