Could not detect target chip

Last week I received my ICD-U40. Unfortunatly I had no MCU's
left at that time. Yesterday however I received some including a
16F877A-I/P.

To My understanding I should be able to program it with the U40.
But it keeps telling me "Could not detect target chip". I fear I may
have made a mistake connecting it.
That is why I would like to ask if anyone has a detailed schematic
of how to connect the ICD to the device. More detailed than the
CCS info on their site.

Any other ideas as to why I get this error are also appreciated.

Thanks for the reply but the description from CCS isn't detailed enough.
I already hooked it up to that specification but it doesn't work. Thats why
I need more detailed info to track down my mistake.

A schematic which includes the MCU would really help a lot.

The Microchip ICD2 has the same connections as the CCS ICD-U40,
except that it doesn't use pin B3 for a debug serial channel, and that
it uses a 10K pullup instead of 47K.

The ICD2 Poster has a schematic on the right side of the sheet,
which shows the PIC.

Thanks, That was what I was looking for.

I hooked it up like the schematic said but it still couldn't detect the device.

Now however I have a different problem. I restarted the computer and the
ICD-U40 is no longer recognized. I tried plugging it into another USB port.
It then wanted to reinstall the drivers.
After another restart no port works anymore.
Now when I start the ICD software I get a "Start Connection" Dialog
Where I have to choose the com port and the baud rate.
The com port list is empty and the baud rate cannot be changed.

I'm starting to worry that my ICD is broken.

Download the ICD Trouble-shooting guide from this page:

Go through it, and if you can't make it work, then call CCS support
on Monday. Calling will work more quickly than emailing.

I already found the document and started debugging. Unfortunalty I still couldn't get it to work.
I'm all in favor of calling but I live in the netherlands and that would probably
mean a really large phone bill. I've opted for email instead.
