At minimum:
- Run both pics of the same clock.
- Connect one reset line to both PICs. Consider using an common external reset supervisor chip.

Hi Kender

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately I cant run the pics off 1 Xstal. I would like to synchronize (approximately) the 2 pics and then disconnect their connection and have them perform separate tasks.

Can you please give me any suggestions as to how to do this?

Thank you
a.

There are two general problems:
- Start synchronization. I guess, you can have a common reset line in the beginning, when PICs are connected.
- Clock accuracy and drift. The frequency varies from clock to clock in the same batch. It also varies with temperature and with vibration. How closely should the PICs be synchronized? For how long should they remain synchronized? From these 2 numbers you can back out the requirement for the clock accuracy and drift (in ppm). Look at TCXOs.

..and then there are application-specific problems. What are you planning to do with the synchronized PICs?
