There is discussions on MODBUS, has anyone tried BACNET. I would be keen to work with BACNET however, not sure on where to start, Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

BACNet is a complex protocol and they charge you for the specification, but then you can use it without further licensing fees, as I understand it. The spec is about 700 pages long and costs about $200. The PIC would only be a good match for the MS/TP Slave (RS-485) or the Point-to-Point modes. I believe the BACNet spec is maintained by the ASHRAE organization. Try Googling for it. |

Can someone explain to me why all these 'open' standards and specifications require a fee in order to obtain the specifications? I can understand in the 70s when you had to print and ship 700 page manuals, but in this day and age people on the internet will distribute your documents for free.... _________________ I came, I saw, I compiled. |
