microcontroller health LED
PostPosted: Wed Sep 21, 2005 4:50 pm     Reply with quote

Hello PIC programmers,

This is my first PIC design. I would like to have an LED that monitors the health of the PIC. It would pulse on and off thus indicating to an observer that the software was running and had not crashed. I used the following bit of code to do this but it seems that it would not be very efficient.

while(TRUE)
{
output_low(PIN_B3);
delay_ms(500);
output_high(PIN_B3);
delay_ms(500);
}

I believe the delay_ms function inserts NOP's to accomplish the delay and therefore any application code would be delayed in processing until after the proper number of NOPs are executed. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,
