Disable Device ID checking during programming

Due to a seemingly-untrackable error, we are having issues with our PIC. Our PIC is mounted on an evaluation board.

The Device ID being read is not consistent, nor is it correct.

Instead of the usual 0x5020, we are getting 0xC7E0, 0xE3E0, and other variations.

We know this chip has been working, and it is the chip it claims to be. We don't know why it appears to be fluctuating this much, and can't track down the issue via the who-touched-it-last doctrine.

We have checked the connections between the computer and the programmer, and between the programmer and the chip. We have tried 2 different programmers, both having the same issue.

Chipedit shows that we have the correct IDs in the registry, and our code references the proper PIC header file, which has not changed.

We are at a loss, to say the least.

We could hard-wire a wrong ID, and hope that it randomly hits it during the check, but this is not a long-term solution.

Therefore, I'm wondering if this phase of programming can be bypassed/ignored? We are starting to look into replacing and resoldering a new chip (or buying a new evaluation board) but that would be our last-ditch effort; it's obviously not ideal.

Tell us:
1. Your PIC, and the date code printed on the chip, and the distributor or
retailer that you bought them from, and their location.
2. Your board manufacturer and model number, and who and where
you bought the board from.
3. Your CCS compiler version.
4. PIC Vdd voltage
5. Programmer(s), listed by Manufacturer and Model.
6. What IDE you are using, and version.
