I have a copy of CCS compiler v3.045 I'm trying to get it working with MPLAB v6.50 or later.
On a simple build for a 16f84A device I get the following error:
> Clean: Deleting intermediary and output files.
> Clean: Done.
> Executing: "C:\Program Files\PICC\Ccsc.exe" trafic03.c +FM
> No Errors
> Halting build on first failed translation as user preferences indicate.
> BUILD FAILED: Thu May 20 12:23:51 2004
So I guess it found the compiler but I don't know what's meant to happen next.
The CCS website tells us that there is a quickstart tutorial for MPLAB 6
'comming soon'. And the CCS support staff directed me to Microchip.
Can you give me a pointer to documentation,
or any advice/instructions/tutorial for getting the compiler working with MPLAB6?
What paths do I need to specify so that the tool can finish the build process?
How can I get more information out of the tool to know whats going wrong?
Cheers
John

Why do you want to use MPLAB? Isn't it possible for you to stick with the IDE provided by CCS?
You are using a very old version of CCS which is not compatible with MPLAB6.50, for example there have been many changes to the debug info (COFF file) so it will be impossible for you to access the variables from the MPLAB debug environment.
I think you have two options:
1) Use an old version of MPLAB which is compatible with your CCS version. Search on the microchip website for the latest 5.xx release.
2) Upgrade to the newest CCS version. This has the advantage of many bugs being solved and then you are on the same version as most other users so you will get better support. As you already own a version of CCS they will give you the new version for a reduced price.

CCS and MPLAB 6.50

I have exactly the same problem.
I have been using MPLAB 6.40 with CCS 3.178
I upgraded to MPLAB 6.50 and hence the same problem
I notice that a there are a number of complaints on the Microchip discussion board of a similar nature affecting a number of compilers.
Has anyone on this board had sucess with MPLAB 6.50?
If this is your first installation download MPLAB 6.40 from the Microchip archive.
(I use both CCS IDE and MPLAB IDE - depending on what I am doing)

Konrad,
I'm using MPLAB 6.51 with no problems. But when installing I had a similar error as you describe because I setup MPLAB in the wrong way. After installing the CCS plugin I overlooked the fact that in the list for selecting the compiler toolset there are two entries voor CCS tools: One called something like "CCS compiler" (this is the wrong one) and the other something like "CCS 12/16/18" (choose this one).
Sorry, I'm not behind my engineering-PC so I can't lookup the exact names.
