problem on kbhit()

I have problem using kbhit() on USART2 RG1 and RG2 on Pic18F6720, it just don't work, who have this problem before please help. but only getc() work but i need to have a time out on the getc().

Did you assign a stream name for the 2nd USART, and then use
the stream as a parameter for kbhit ? Example:

#use RS232 (baud=9600, xmit=PIN_G1, rcv=PIN_G2, stream=COMM2)

main()
{
char c;

c = kbhit(COMM2);

while(1);
}
